Visitors often come to Kauai looking for unique experiences designed to relax and rejuvenate. They imagine themselves unwinding in warm, mineral-rich waters surrounded by palm trees and the scent of tropical flowers. With the island’s rich beauty and volcanic landscapes, you may be wondering, are there hot springs on Kauai, or something equally relaxing to discover?
Though there aren’t any official hot springs on Kauai, the island does offer its own twist with natural lava pools, expansive ocean tidal pools, and even some luxurious spa treatments that focus on the healing properties of water.
In this blog, we'll check out some invigorating and restorative hydrotherapies at island spas, as well as one of Kauai’s most unique water experiences. Let’s check them out below so you can start planning your relaxing getaway!
Unique Alternatives to Hot Springs on Kauai
Each of these water activities was selected to enhance your vacation and provide incredible opportunities to relax in some of the island’s most iconic landscapes. As with any water activity in Hawaii, exercise extreme caution and always go with another person or group.
Secret Beach and Lava Pools

Ask anyone, and they’ll tell you Secret Beach and Lava Pools isn’t that much of a secret anymore, but it is still one of the top places to visit as you explore Kauai. After hiking the short but steep trail down to the beach, you’ll find an expansive stretch of golden sand and picturesque tidal pools enclosed by lava rock.
Make a left when you reach the beach to head toward the lava pools. Once you arrive, you’ll be met by two gently cascading freshwater waterfalls and beautiful pools where you can swim, float, and soak in the Hawaiian sunshine.
To the right, you can see the Kilauea Lighthouse in the distance, and overhead, towering trees and palm fronds wave in the ocean breeze.
Fun Fact: This area is called Kauapea in Hawaiian, which translates to “beach.” If you’d like to learn more about Hawaiian words and phrases as you plan your upcoming trip, check out our
Safety and Access
There are no roads directly to Secret Beach and Lava Pools, and in winter, the tides and waves are extremely strong, making it a very dangerous spot to visit. As with Queen’s Bath, pay attention to the waves and tides before going out, wear good shoes for the hike down, and never go alone.
